Home Office and Electronics
Individually, home electronics don't use too much energy. But think about just how many gizmos and gadgets you have. TV's, stereos, DVD players, VCRs, answering machines, computers, printers, modems, fax machines, game systems and so on. With a few simple OneThings in mind, the energy savings can add up.
OneThing to remember is that many electronic devices continue to drain power even when they're not in use.
- Turn off computers rather than putting them to sleep for long periods of time.
- Unplug electronics when you'll be away for awhile. You can put a whole gaggle of gizmos on one power strip then just flick the switch.
- Turn off the main power to your new big screen TV, rather than leaving it on standby mode when you'll be away.
- Put your TV on sleep mode so, if you fall asleep on the couch, it's not on all night.
- Always buy products with the ENERGY STAR label when available.
One great big OneThing is to just reduce the amount of time you use electronic devices. Why not spend more time outside? A little less TV and video gaming is never a bad thing. And you'll get to enjoy the environment you're working so hard to protect.
