SmartPower
Have you heard about the SmartPower: 20% by 2010 campaign? It's great, because it's the realization by our state and, more specifically, our individual towns, that cleaner energy is real, is working and is a viable option.
SmartPower is a nationwide effort to promote clean energy - electricity from sources such as wind, solar and water. Its mission is to challenge towns, faith communities, colleges and universities to make 20% of their energy supply come from clean, renewable sources by 2010.
Though SmartPower is nationwide, our state appears to be leading the way. In 2004, SmartPower collaborators in Connecticut created demand for over 100 gigawatt-hours (GWH) of clean energy. In fact, more than two dozen towns have already committed. And many more are on their way.
OneThing you can do is help promote the idea of SmartPower in your town. You can send a letter to a town official, write the editor of your local paper, or even pass a municipal clean energy resolution. It's easy to do all these things at
Connecticut's SmartPower website.
